The basic guide for beginner players in Escape from Tarkov

Escape from Tarkov is a realistic first-person shooter in which players start raids in specific locations in order to find as much good loot as possible, eliminate competitors, find a way out and leave the raid alive. Otherwise, after death, all found items will be lost. The game is currently in closed beta testing and is available in various preliminary editions.

Interface

Outside of battle, the player can trade with NPCs, take available tasks from merchants, track the player’s general statistics, and visit the cache. By the way, this is the main place in the game where the user can put all the looted things, items, or weapons. On the left side is the fighter interface, which displays the equipment worn: armor, weapons, and supplies. A little above the cache, you can track the amount of available EFT currency.

The “Health System” tab is designed to keep track of the fighter’s injuries on the battlefield. It is useless to view this tab outside the raid – all indicators will be normal. Especially often, players begin to monitor health after several hits by the enemy.

There are seven health slots in total for different parts of the body. If, without any limb, a fighter will most likely be able to get to the point of evacuation, then with a completely knocked out head or chest it will be almost unrealistic. When one of these slots is lost, the indicators of the remaining ones will automatically begin to decrease until the fighter dies. Temporarily to suspend this action will help the action of painkillers – Analgin or morphine. It should be remembered that after the effect of such drugs has passed, the character will strongly want to drink.

IMPORTANT: Dehydration can also lead to death, be careful!

Control

To survive, it is not enough to use good weapons and uniforms. You need to know and be able to use all the control functions of a fighter.

Compared to other games of the “realism” genre, Escape from Tarkov has almost no HUD elements, and the movement of the fighter is accompanied by rather complex controls. As in any shooter, the classic WSAD key control is used for control, but there are many more additional functions. For example, if you removed any weapon from a corpse, you cannot know how many cartridges are left in the store. To do this, press Alt + T, then the fighter will determine the approximate number of them.

Weapons & Equipment

Before embarking on a raid, you need to equip weapons and equipment in the character menu. For the first raids, a pistol is quite suitable. Do not forget to take with you a few suitable clips, as well as a couple of dozen rounds, in case the ammunition runs out.

  • An existing vest can be equipped on the unloading panel. Place additional clips and medicines in it for quick reloading and using them on the quick access bar. It is important to understand that reloading clips from a backpack will be slower.
  • The backpack is the main element for collecting the necessary items. Depending on its size, you can place not only simple loot here, but also weapons, equipment, and other items. After death, the backpack and all things in it will be lost.
  • The protective container is located in the pouch. The number of empty cells in the container is determined by the purchased edition. All items placed in such a container, the player can save after death and transfer to the stash. Usually valuable items and expensive items are placed here for further use or sale.

Be sure to take your medication with you. In total, there are several types of first-aid kits, bandages, painkillers in the game, as well as splints – items that are applied to an injured limb. All first-aid kits, with the exception of AI-2, when used, not only restore health, but also stop bleeding. If you have only simple first-aid kits in your inventory, first use bandages to stop bleeding, only then restore health points.

If you have lost all the weapons, and you do not have enough funds to buy a new one, you can go on a raid with only a knife or an ax at your disposal. All locations have large weapon boxes, in which you can often find a good barrel. Don’t rely on easy prey. Typically, the “hatchets” are quickly killed before the fighter finds the firearm. Such players tactfully avoid shootouts, waiting for the moment when it becomes possible to pick up valuable items from the killed.

Trade Tricks

At the beginning levels, you can save money by using some tricks. You can buy weapons from merchants not only for money, but also by a kind of “barter”, in exchange for some things. There are a lot of examples of exchanges with arms dealers, depending on the type of weapon they may ask for weapons, statuettes or other items in return.

Let’s say you want to buy the P226R semi-automatic pistol from the Peacekeeper, but you don’t have enough foreign currency to buy it to exchange them for such a gun, go on a raid and find four simple A-2607 knives.

The only merchant in the game that does not have barter is the Buyer. He is given a special role in Escape from Tarkov, since all things or weapons that real players sell to this NPC can be bought by any player. Experienced fighters often update the Buyer’s assortment in order to purchase valuable items for a small fee.

Conduct Battles Offline

In Escape from Tarkov, there is not only an online mode in which the user faces real players. Offline mode allows you to fight only with the Wilds, which are controlled by artificial intelligence. Such raids are designed to study the map: the location of large and small weapon containers, office boxes and other debris. Since there is no navigation in the game at all, leave important objects and exit points from the location in memory.

Learning To Get Objects

A favorite feature of most Tarkov players is collecting valuable items, or, as gamers say, “loot”. The main task is to find and save useful loot in the raid. At first glance, it may not seem difficult, but its implementation is complicated by the presence of bots on the map (Wild), as well as other PMC operators.

Search office drawers. Often, it is in these boxes that you can find valuable loot – bitcoins, gas analyzers, rare keys and other useful items.

As mentioned above, barrels and equipment for them can be found in large weapon boxes, and cartridges in medium, wooden boxes. But plundering killed enemies is more profitable. This is especially true for weapons and equipment. Experienced players carry with them a whole arsenal that can be yours at any time.

If you spotted and neutralized the enemy, you should not run to him and search the corpse for joy. Better to wait a while. Perhaps the killed enemy did not go to the raid alone, in which case his corpse will be under the supervision of his comrades. Some players use the corpses of the killed as bait for inexperienced fighters. The main thing in Escape from Tarkov is not to rush, and wait for the right moment to collect items from the corpse.

Wild

Wild can be controlled not only by artificial intelligence, but also by any player. Every 20 minutes, a raid for the Wild is available to the user. He spawns in a random place at the selected location, with absolutely random equipment. Escape points are different from the main points for PMC operators. You can track them by double pressing the “O” key.

Most often, the Wilds in the raid are passive until they notice the PMC operators. Being at a safe distance from the bot, it is best to immediately eliminate it with accurate headshots, as they are serious opponents. Just a few hits are enough for them to immobilize a fighter. The bots not only shoot accurately but are also trained in the tactics of flanking and shooting from behind cover. Basically, their arsenal includes one primary weapon and a pistol. Some Wilds are equipped with protective vests, making it difficult to firefight from a distance.

A feature of the game for the Wild is also the fact that you will not be attacked by the Wilds, which are controlled by the computer. On the contrary, you can give them directions through the menu (by default, the “Y” key), and maybe they will listen to you. If, playing as a Wild, you kill at least one bot, then all Wilds in the location will automatically begin to recognize you as an enemy, and will attack when detected
